Oral Surgery
We pride ourselves in performing gentle surgical procedures, comfortably and with a minimum of post-operative swelling or discomfort. For you convenience we offer comprehensive treatment. You can have you fillings done while you are sedated to have your wisdom teeth removed. Nitrous oxide and IV sedation are available.
Extractions
An extraction is performed when a tooth becomes impacted because it is prevented from growing into its normal position in the mouth by gum tissue, bone or other teeth. Teeth may also be extracted to make more room in the mouth prior to straightening the remaining teeth (orthodontic treatment), because they are so badly positioned that straightening is impossible or to remove teeth that are so badly decayed or broken that they cannot be restored. For an immediate denture full mouth extraction are sometimes required and can be done all in the same day. Tooth extractions can usually be performed with local anesthesia.
Wisdom Teeth
For most people it is beneficial to have their wisdom teeth removed simply because there is no room for them in their mouth without creating crowding in their existing teeth. This procedure can be done in office under IV Sedation if you choose. The IV allows us to administer an anti-inflammatory that decreases swelling and quickens healing, as well as keeping you comfortably relaxed with little to no recollection of the process. The Dentists @ Stonehaven Dental have performed Wisdom teeth extractions comfortably weekly throughout his 20 years of practice.
Gum Grafts
Connective tissue grafts are indicated for areas of your gum line that are lacking in a specific type of gum tissue that is attached directly to the bone (attached gingiva). Areas deficient in attached gingiva are subject to recession of the gums and the underlying bone (gingival recession) and exposure of your root surfaces leading to sensitivity and increased risk for decay (root surfaces not covered with enamel are softer and more cavity prone). As the proposed gingival graft heals, it heals attached firmly to the underlying bone and has the potential of actually covering up previously exposed root surfaces thus protecting your tooth/teeth from further recession and helping with problems with sensitivity and decay. The graft heals looking great and greatly improves the overall health and appearance of your gums & teeth. The procedure is usually done with local anesthesia (I.V. sedation is always available) and takes about 50 minutes. It is a surgical procedure and you can expect moderate pain for 4-5 days as it is healing. We usually recommend Ibuprofen combined with Extra Strength Tylenol to help with any discomfort during the healing period. We also recommend that the grafted area be left alone (soft diet, no rinsing or brushing in the area) so that it can heal for the first 4-5 days. Let us know if you have any questions about the proposed procedure. We want you to be fully informed about how this procedure will improve your oral health.
